Blues Slapshot: Reunited and It Felt Terrible

Welp, as you may have noticed, my streak ended after the 6-4 win on Saturday against the Flames. Starting a new streak tonight, and hopefully the Blues aren’t.

Game 7 of 82: Blues lose 4-1 to Calgary in regulation

Goal: Shattenkirk PP (2)

Brian Elliot and Troy Brouwer made their returns to St. Louis since joining the Flames. St. Louisian Matthew Tkachuk, son of former Blue, Keith1 also had a homecoming of sorts. If I was a Flames fan, I’d say these 3 had a great game. Elliot only let up 1, Brouwer and Tkachuk both had an assist. But I’m not, so they’re jerks.

On the other hand, this game was pretty much a slopfest from the Blues. Bad passes, pucks rolling over sticks, poor puck possession in the offensive zone, and turnovers galore. Just not a consistent effort from the boys in Blue.

Only noticeable moment of greatness was the power play where Shattenkirk scored. Some good tic-tac passing to get separation from defenders, before a pass lands on Shatty’s stick right above the faceoff dot and he wrists it in the small opening between Elliot’s shoulder and the crossbar.

Also, so much for the speed game plan for the Blues. The Flames looked like they were fully rested, after winning against Chicago last night in a shootout and the Blues were the tired ones after having two days off.

But, it’s still extremely early in the season and it’s just 1 game, so I’m not worried.2 Plus the night wasn’t too bad, the Cubs lost game 1 of the World Series.

Quick Hits

  • Tonight’s game was the first game where the Blues entered the 3rd period trailing.
  • In the 6-0 win against the Cubs, this was the first career multi-HR game for Roberto Perez at any level. Oops wrong game recap.

I agree with this expert analysis.

Up Next

Blues will faceoff against Detroit on Thursday at Scottrade. The Red Wings (5-2) are coming off a win against the Hurricanes from Tuesday night. Very interested how that team will fair this year without Pavel Datsyuk as he left for the KHL.

Bold Prediction: Fabbri either assists on or gets the game winning goal.

Not so Bold Prediction: Jaskin sits this one out. Paajarvi is in.

The Blues get back in the win column with this one, winning 3-2 in OT.

  1. You guys may have heard of him.
  2. Even if it sounds like I am.
