The St. Louis Cardinals are set to play the Pittsburgh Pirates in Williamsport, Pennsylvania this Sunday. Lance Lynn and Randal Grichuk are among the Cardinals to have already played in Williamsport back in their LLWS days.

It should be a battle as the Cardinals look to gain 1.5 games on the Cubs in the NL Central while the Pirates role falls somewhere between spoiler and contention themselves at 5.5 games back.

Let’s hop right into this weeks news and notes from around the sports world.

Around the Horn

The Los Angeles Rams traded for Sammy Watkins. The winner of the trade was Jared Goff for getting a weapon to throw to. The loser of the trade was Sammy Watkins for getting Jared Goff to throw to him.

The Cardinals play the Pirates in Williamsburg this weekend. Let’s hope Randy still has that LLWS swing.

Maybe Matheny will pull a trick play of this caliber for the game.

Ryan Howard signed a minor league deal with the Colorado Rockies. I could see him hitting a few homers in Colora…holy shit! Ryan Howard is 37? When did that happen?

Wil Myers stole around the horn against the Phillies earlier this week. He took second, third, and home in the same trip around the bases.

Jordan (Not Michael) threw out the best first pitch of the year before the Red Sox vs Cardinals game. Right in the bean bags.

The most convincing evidence for the Cardinals eventual World Series run1 has been found.

Dexter Fowler has been the MLB’s 2nd best hitter to Giancarlo Stanton in August.

I can’t improve on this headline from FiveThirtyEight: Blake Bortles is the Tom Brady of Garbage Time.

I somehow missed sharing this interview of Lance Lynn after he wore a line drive off the head and stayed in the game. I really don’t want to let Lynn to walk. He’s the only pitcher on this team that could, well, wear a line drive off the head and finish the game.

He also taught foreign kids bad words.

Matt Adams returned to Busch and talked about missing his old teammates.

Apparently the Cardinals veterans took everyone out for steaks and talked some sense into them to kick off the winning streak last week.

That streak came to an end with 3 losses in a row including a devastating loss in Boston aided by some truly bad umping. That was the Cardinals MLB-worst 22nd loss when leading by multiple runs. But we did get fired-up Mike Matheny yelling into a hot mic.

The Cardinals players busted out some sick moves on the plane last week. Carson did join in on this shit Tommy.

Speaking of Tommy Pham, he absolutely obliterated a ball in Pittsburgh.

Oh and Fangraphs named him the Cardinals best player this season.

In St. Louis Blues news, Fabbri is expected to be a full participant in camp coming back from his ACL tear.

The Giants elimination number is down to 4. This amuses me.
